Using the Free player (mod_FREEplyer) remotely with more than 1 station
Whilst the ideal way to use Robot Voice Tracking PRO for more than one station is to purchase a license
for mod_remote..you can still use the free player with many remote stations with a bit of computer savy.
This guide explains the steps:
1) Install Robot voice Tracking PRO on every PC.
2) Nominate one computer as the master (or base) which can also be used to run the free player for the local station.
3) Import the audio for the station following the manual, but subject to the following important criterion:
MUSIC
* All of the music you want to use on every station (including the local one) MUST be physically copied
into the default (c:\robotvoicepro\songs) or a group folder (c:\robotvoicepro\songs\group1...2 etc.).
* When you are building your library select ONLY tracks from the default song folder, or sub-groups,
don't select a track from another part of your hard drive (which the software allows you to do) as
the remote PC's will have no chance of finding it.
ADVERTS & ID's etc.
Decide which groups you are going to use for which station. My suggestion is the default for the local
station and then groups 1 - 20 for the others...yes sorry this limits you to 20 stations but that should
cover free users anyway. In these group folders place the audio unqiue to each station using the station
screen.
4) Build the Music library using the library screen remembering to ONLY select audio from the "c:\robotvoicepro\songs"
folder and its sub-folders.
5) Create Rules for each of the sites, Apply the rules to clocks for each of the sites.
6) Construct the format (using the format screen) for each station (or "site" as it says on the screen) etc.
7) Go to the Traffic screen and create a new master playlist for the number of days and sites you are working with
(30 days in advance is a good idea).
8) OK. You now have a master playlist capable of running your local and remote sites....you need to get the audio onto
each PC. You need to burn the "c:\robotvoicepro" folder in its entirety onto a DVDR (no one said it was going to be
easy!) then copy over the "c:\robotvoicepro" folder on each PC with the copy from the master (or base) computer so
their folder is a mirror image of the base one. then MOST IMPORTANTLY MAKE SURE that you change the permissions of
the "c:\robotvoicepro" folder on the remote PC's to full read/write because burning the files onto a DVDR will make
them read only and the program will not work....everything has to be read/write enabled..every folder and file.
What if the folder is too big to fit on one DVDR?
Then you will need to shift it over in sections making sure that what you move goes in the identical place.
Whats the easiest way to do this?
Use a crossover cable and copy the files onto each machine in turn.
9) Now you are in business! Select the playlist you created on each free player on each remote PC and a different site
for each machine (consistant with the way you planned it with format, rules etc.), click play and you have remote
operation.
10) When you make your next playlists for the base and all of the remote sites for the next 30 days remember:
* If you import or add new audio or music onto the base computer to schedule it for play on a remote station,
the audio has to also be physically copied onto the remote machine(s) that need it. Its no good giving the
remote unit a fresh playlist with audio to play it hasn't got on its hard drive.
* Even if you have copied the audio, changes in the playlist will not happen unless you copy the
"c:\robotvoicepro\playlists" folder in its entirety onto the PC you are updating, then re-start the player.
